Hardwood floor Refinishing
Learning about all the hardwood flooring finishes

The Hardwood Guys knows it can be confusing learning about all the
different hardwood flooring options,
solid hardwood flooring vs.
engineered hardwood flooring, then if you've decided on solid
hardwood flooring, you now have to choose whether to go with site
finished solid hardwood flooring, or prefinished solid hardwood
flooring.  If you are still undecided, read more about
prefinished
hardwood flooring vs. site finished hardwood flooring.
If you have finally decided to go with a solid site-finished hardwood
floor, you now have to face the decision of which type of finish you
would like to have applied to your new hardwood floor. Obviously you
want a quality finish that is durable to every day life, and protects your
floor, while bringing out it's natural beauty.  This page is to help walk
you through the different hardwood floor finishes available.
The basic finish options we offer are:

OIL BASED
  • Oil-modified urethane -This is generally the most common
surface finish, and is easy to apply. It is a solvent-base
polyurethane that dries in about 8-12 hours.
Duraseal Polyurthane

SWEDISH Finish
  • Swedish finish is an acid-based urethane - It is a clear and fast
drying finish. It is durable and non-yellowing. Though chosen
for it's hardness, these finishes are highly volatile with extremely
strong fumes and should only be applied by the highly skilled
    wood flooring professional.

WATER BASED FINISH
  • Water-based urethane is a waterborne urethane that dries by
water evaporation. These finishes are clear and non-yellowing,
and contain UV inhibitors which delay or inhibit the natural color
changing process, keeping the wood closer to it's original color.
They have a milder odor than oil-modified finishes have and they
dry in several hours. Water-based urethanes are generally applied
in least 3 coats. Lowest VOC content.  The Berger-Seidle Water
based finish we use is environmentally friendly.
